Embrace the data.
A lot of things are “smart” for the sake of being smart. Your fridge, your coffee maker, your water bottle—none of these really need to be internet-connected smart devices.
And yeah, scales have been doing their thing for a long time without so much as a Bluetooth connection, so what gives? Do you really need this?
Probably.
Because as ridiculous as this premise is, monitoring your weight through the lens of a tiny graph on your phone is actually shockingly helpful. Two million years of human evolution plus, like, 200 years of sexy magazine photos have so thoroughly warped our sense of body image that it’s impossible to think rationally about how you look and feel.
No wonder it’s so damn appealing to quit staring at yourself in the mirror and instead embrace the objective simplicity of pixels on your phone.
You get clear, objective data on weight, body fat percentage and BMI. You can see where you stand. You can watch trends over time. If you’re feeling particularly gross or weak or bloated you can go back to your little phone chart to verify that you are indeed moving in the right direction and you don’t need to fall into a personal spiral of despair.
Not a bad little tool for both physical and mental health, is what we’re saying. Especially appealing for less than twenty bucks.
You’re doing awesome. Now you can bring the receipts.
