We know, we know…this seems like a 20-year-old solution to a problem that’s been considered moot since the invention of wireless earbuds.

But in reality, these are a refreshingly different experience compared to traditional earbuds, allowing you to enjoy your music (or podcast or audiobook or whatever) without having to jam something into your ears. That means that instead of closing out the world around you, you’re actually just adding your personal audio to the surrounding mix, letting you focus on that if you want to or pay attention to something else as needed.

So if someone is trying to talk to you, you’ll at least know about it. And if you’re crossing the street and there’s a car bearing down on you, you’ll know about that, too. By delivering sound through your temples instead of blasting it down your auditory canals, your experience becomes totally different and a lot more flexible.

These are obviously not for tuning out the world with active noise cancellation. They’re about having it both ways, for just twelve bucks.

We admit we probably wouldn’t be that excited about this at their $49 retail price, but with today’s deal it just might be worth a shot.
