Drive safely (and record everything).
Given how common cameras are these days, it’s actually a little crazy that dash cams aren’t more of a thing outside of places like Russia, where insurance fraud is a national pastime. But yeah…your car probably has a camera to keep an eye on your trashcans as you back out of the driveway, but won’t see a thing if a guy runs a stop sign and crashes into you (then swears that he didn’t).
A dash cam can set the record straight.
You know what else a dash cam can do? Capture cool stuff.
If the little old lady at the stoplight in front of you peels off the line and embarrasses the teenagers next to her who stall out their heavily-modified Civic, you’re going to want a video of that for posterity. See also that near miss with the deer running out into the road, the dude on the weird gas-powered unicycle you’ve never been able to adequately describe to your friends, parking lot fisticuffs—the list goes on and on of odd and interesting things you can capture on a dash cam.
It’s really for all those random happenings where you won’t be quick enough to get your phone out, but still would like a video.
It’s also for those times when your car is there, but you are not. Parking lot mode allows the camera to sit quietly in its spot and then flip on and record if it senses shenanigans, like someone jostling your vehicle or bumping into it with theirs. Most of those little parking lot fender benders remain forever unsolved. With this at least you’ll be able to see what happened.
Drop a few bucks and get some budget-friendly surveillance in place ASAP and maybe avoid an insurance nightmare someday. Send us your first cool video!
