I’d like to know more about installation. Do I have random USB cables dangling from device to USB charging port? Do I have to disassemble half my trim to hide a cable? Is this the kind of thing someone will smash my window to steal?
@otherstalin my city has some of the worst car break-ins in the country, and the cops straight up don’t care to enforce anything. People are so brazen, they even smash passenger windows while a driver is sitting in a parked car… I just need to understand how visible this truly is or isn’t.
@creativecstasy@otherstalin@sflesch I had a window smashed to steal a handheld CB that sold for $20. Thieves are fucking clueless; they steal based on what they think it’s worth, or just because it looks like something they want, not what it’s really worth. To me, a dashcam that’s sitting in front of a rear view mirror is right out where it can be seen, making it far more likely to get a window smashed than one you can unclip and stash in a few seconds. And if it looks like it might be a radar detector or a GLT box, it’s even more likely to be a theft target.
@lichen You and @creativecstasy both say this is the non-wifi version ($25 at Walmart) despite the SideDeal display picture. How are you sure? I know the description doesn’t say wifi but it also doesn’t say the model number unless I missed it?

@creativecstasy They definitely won’t smash your window if they know how much it costs at Walmart.

@creativecstasy @otherstalin These are so cheap, they smashed the window on my 2010 Grand Caravan and installed one of these.

@creativecstasy @otherstalin @werehatrack there’s a few reasons, but that’s one of the reasons that I have yet to come close to purchasing one.
Why are you showing a phone in the picture when the camera doesn’t have WiFi?

@ekjswim @lichen I don’t know, I just Googled the product name. I didn’t realize there were different models at a similar price point.
@creativecstasy @ekjswim
The AUKEY DR02 is the only one on Aukey’s website that resembles this one.
It would be nice to have the model number, I was trying to find reviews before deciding on purchasing.
After more searching I found a reference to a DR02 P that does have wifi.
