Struggling into the strong wind, you make your way over to one of the clay igloos and look through the opening. You see nothing but darkness.
“Hello?” you call in.
The response comes not in words. Instead, you hear a strange buzzing noise. You step back from the opening as the giant wasp creature emerges, its wings fluttering intermittently as if it has just awoken.
“I’m… sorry… I didn’t mean…” you stammer.
The wind howls and you hear a crash of faraway thunder as you bump into something behind you. You turn around to find another wasp. It’s nearly six feet tall. You think of the bird you saw that did not look like a bird.
All around you, from the holes of the clay igloos, other monstrous wasps emerge.
The one you’ve bumped into flaps its wings and rises so that your face is level with its abdomen, which curls forward, revealing its stinger.
And this is the last thing you see.
